Program Overview

Lakehead University (LU) Faculty of Business Administration offers a one year general MBA program for individuals with a business and non-business background to prepare them for successful careers in the business world. The primary goals of the program are to develop the analytical decision-making and communication skills of students, and to expand their knowledge of effective management practice while instilling a professional and responsible attitude toward business. MBA students begin with a one-week orientation, then take 14 graduate courses. The MBA degree can be taken full-time or part-time. Full-time students may obtain their degree in one calendar year and part-time students may finish in three years.

The Master of Science in Management (MSc Mgt) degree is a one year full-time, program comprising a one-week orientation, six graduate courses, and a thesis or management research project that targets graduates with a four-year business or commerce degree seeking to enhance their career by taking coursework focused on theoretical and conceptual components of the management discipline. The MSc Mgt program provides theoretical foundation in the field of management and develops students' capability for the pursuit of research and management practice.

The home of the Faculty of Business Administration at LU is the Ryan Building, which also houses the professors' offices and most business classes. Centrally located on the Lakehead campus, the proximity between classes and faculty offices provide easy access for students to consult with professors between classes. Computer labs located in the business school building are open 24 hours a day. A new Advanced Technology and Academic Centre serves as the university's "nerve centre," centralizing its information technology and distance education functions (LU currently has unique partnerships in place with Nortel Networks, Bell Canada and IBM Canada). In addition, The Chancellor Paterson Library offers a large collection of books, periodicals, CD-ROMS and computer software for student use, along with meeting rooms and computing areas. For on-campus athletics, students can visit the C. J. Sanders Fieldhouse, which houses a gymnasium, a swimming pool, squash courts, and a fitness room with weight and cardio machines.
